James Diossa Sworn in as Rhode Island’s 32nd General Treasurer Published on Tuesday, January 03, 2023 Providence, RI - Today, former Central Falls Mayor James A. Diossa was sworn in as Rhode Island’s 32nd General Treasurer by Governor Dan McKee. The inauguration ceremony was held at the Rhode Island Convention Center. “Thank you, Governor, for swearing me in and thank you to all my fellow Rhode Islanders for the privilege and responsibility of serving you. I want to acknowledge the loss of a Rhode Island champion today and former Central Falls resident, Governor Lincoln Almond. We are a better state because of his commitment to our community. My condolences are with his family and loved ones.” He continued, “Today, I stand here proudly alongside my fellow General Officers, state leaders, and so many friends and colleagues. Thank you all. I thank God and my family for being my rock and motivation every day. Especially, my brilliant and beautiful life partner, Senator Sandra Cano, and my amazing daughter, Arianna - you are the light of my life. To my extended family, ¡Gracias por tanto! Los amo.” In reflecting on his many years as a dedicated public servant, the Treasurer added, “I stand humbly before you all as the son of immigrants who arrived with nothing, a kid who grew up on the streets of Central Falls with little more than a soccer ball and a dream. Together we made change in Central Falls and made it the comeback city by uniting the community, investing in our people, and creating a brighter future for our children. As a proud Rhode Islander, I am certain of our State’s bright future - one that we will continue to build together through vision, courage, and hard work. Thank you for this privilege. Thank you for loving Rhode Island.” McKee, Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos and Secretary of State Gregg Amore were also sworn in during the indoor festivities. Diossa thanked them as well as Attorney General Peter Neronha, Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi, Senate President Dominick J. Ruggiero and additional family members, friends and colleagues in attendance. Treasurer Diossa also thanked the voters for the confidence they placed in him to be the State’s next Treasurer. He and his diverse and talented State House team led by Chief of Staff Gonzalo Cuervo officially start tomorrow, Jan. 4, 2023.
