Treasurer Diossa Issues Public Comment on Proposed Naturalization Fee Increase Published on Monday, March 13, 2023 Today, Rhode Island General Treasurer James A. Diossa issued public comment opposing the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) proposal that would increase the cost of the naturalization application for most applicants from $725 to $760. “As the first Latino Treasurer of the State of Rhode Island and former mayor of a predominantly immigrant community, I have witnessed both the personal and economic value that naturalization has to my state,” wrote Treasurer Diossa. “I have heard from thousands of Rhode Islanders who have had obstacles in applying for naturalization due to the long processing times, the financial and personal costs involved, and the complexity of the immigration system. I urge USCIS to ensure that naturalization is accessible and affordable for our nation’s lawful permanent residents.” Treasurer Diossa’s public comment can be found here.
