Treasurer Diossa Statement Following Governor McKee’s State of the State Address Published on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 Providence, RI – Today, Rhode Island General Treasurer James A. Diossa released the following statement at the conclusion of Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee’s 2024 State of the State Address. "I commend Governor McKee for recognizing the value of the Secure Choice Act in his State of the State Address” said General Treasurer Diossa. “Rhode Island is ranked near the bottom of the nation in private sector employees with retirement plans. This legislation will ensure that more Rhode Islanders can look forward to dignity and security in retirement after a lifetime of hard work. I look forward to working with the General Assembly to pass this bill and ensure that it becomes law.” The Secure Choice Act would create a portable individual retirement savings program for Rhode Islanders working at businesses with as few as five employees. Administered by the State, the new program would offer employees the opportunity to save for retirement through payroll deductions at no added cost to employers and participation would be optional for employees.
