Providence, RI – Today, Rhode Island General Treasurer James A. Diossa released the following statement after the historic signing of the Equality in Abortion Coverage Act (EACA).

Across the nation we have witnessed the catastrophic hurdles women and pregnant people have faced due to a lack of access to reproductive health care services,” said General Treasurer Diossa. “Now that the EACA is law in the Ocean State, all people—especially those most in need of financial assistance—will not only have fair access to reproductive health care but the freedom to make their own family planning decisions.”

The Equality in Abortion Act was sponsored by House Majority Whip Representative Katherine Kazarian (D-Dist. 63) and Senator Bridget Valverde (D-Dist. 35). The law will provide for abortion coverage in the Medicaid program and repeals the abortion coverage exclusion for state employee insurance plans.
