I am a teacher who retired in 2005. During my years of teaching I contributed to the pension system with the guarantee that I would have a pension that would support me after retirement. I did not receive huge raises and many years went without a raise, so my contribution to a 403b was limited. During this time I was ALWAYS reminded that I would be taken care of after retirement if I followed all the protocols.
Upon considering my retirement I scheduled an appointment and received all the information that I needed to process my retirement as well as a payment schedule that included the agreed upon 3%compounded annually. The counselor who I worked with explained the schedule for me to consider so that I would understand what my future would look like in retirement. So, I made the decision to retire based on that information.
In 2011 the governor and the GA decided to change and not give us anything that we agreed to.
Whether you were active in this process or not, someone should have been able to do something in the last 12 years. This whole process has been a disgrace!
DO WHAT IS RIGHT NOW AND GIVE THE RETIREES WHAT THEY DESERVE!
