Thank you for the opportunity to explain how the PENSION debacle of 2011 affected US! Two Cranston teachers who taught 32 and 33 years and were told when we retired what our pension and our COLA was going to be! That info is HOW we decided what option to choose that would be the best for us as we reached our retirement years! BUT…along came GINA and to make HER A HEADLINE in her political career she made FOOLS out of public state employees and teachers! Sadly we actually believed her and voted along with her! What fools she made out of us! We loved every day as elementary teachers but we knew we’d “never be rich” BUT we had “good” pensions to look forward to! On a side note our two son in laws graduated from URI in 2001 and 2003 and their STARTING PAYS were equal to my husbands top pay in his last year as a teacher in Cranston! How sad is that ? Both our daughters became teachers so of course THEIR starting pay was a lot less but we made teaching look so special they both couldn’t wait to start their teaching carreers! To change our pension and what we were promised AFTER we retired honestly seems like fraud! But look how SPECIAL Gina appeared to the nation as she TOOK ON THE UNIONS and their retirees pensions and COLAS! We do NOT get Social Security so our pension without a COLA has remained the same since 2011. Luckily for us there are two of us right now so we are able to live BUT when one of us is no longer here the option we chose (because if what we were promised that totally changed)
