Just one topic I would like to bring up and that is a cost of living increase that would be fair to all.
I’ve always thought that the following is a good way of getting a cost of living to retirees that have basically been shut out of a cost of living increases in their retirement. Even when we have received a COLA in many cases it was on less than 25% of retirement checks.
Instead of a yearly compounded cost of living like it previously was that grows very quickly and does have a tremendous cost associated with it I would suggest that all employees who retired before losing our cost of living increase could get an annual cost of living increase that is the amount of the cost of living that they received the first time we got a cost of living increase.
Every yearly COLA would then be that same amount the retiree received in their very first COLA.
Another thought — because we didn’t receive what we were promised the elimination of RI income tax on our entire state retirement money could help us a little.
