Treasurer Diossa Marks 100 Days in Office Published on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 Providence, RI – Today, marks Rhode Island General Treasurer Diossa’s 100th day in office. From day one, Treasurer Diossa hit the ground running to serve the people of Rhode Island. From advocacy in the General Assembly, to protecting and strengthening the pension fund, to promoting financial literacy for all Rhode Islanders, Treasurer Diossa has demonstrated his commitment to transparency and accountability as General Treasurer. “The people of Rhode Island put a great deal of trust in me by electing me General Treasurer,” said Treasurer Diossa. “As I close out my first 100 days in office, I am committed to building on the progress that we have made so far and going even further to protect, educate, and invest in the Ocean State.” Taking office with key priorities in mind, Treasurer Diossa has made considerable progress in his first 100 days. A list of his accomplishments and initiatives are listed below: Supporting the Secure Choice Act, which would create no-cost individual retirement accounts for Rhode Island workers at businesses with five or more employees that do not already offer retirement savings plans Encouraging the General Assembly to pass a one-time $500 stipend to pensioners to help in alleviating inflationary pressures Advocating for amendments to the Crime Victims Compensation program to increase its resources and better serve impacted Rhode Islanders Emphasizing the importance of financial literacy and highlighting programs and individuals that bolstering financial literacy education in Rhode Island Protecting retires by monitoring and responding to the situation of Silicon Valley Bank after it was placed under the receivership of the FDIC Filing a shareholder derivative via ERSRI against Meta directors and officers concerning sex trafficking and child exploitation Stressing the need to put an end to the vicious cycle of payday lending Fighting for the reproductive freedom of all people Pushing for action on gun violence prevention Treasurer Diossa will continue prioritizing investments in the state and uplifting financial opportunities for all Rhode Islanders by elevating programs managed by the Office of the General Treasurer. These programs include the Employees’ Retirement System of Rhode Island, Unclaimed Property, Crime Victim Compensation, and CollegeBound Saver (529 Plan).
